Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 'Fontellella',
Baroncini 2006
Are you in the mood for a genuine bargain?
Are you tired of paying too much for your insurance?
We've managed to get our hands on a cracking parcel of one of Italy's famed DOCG reds: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. From the beautiful rolling hills of Southern Tuscany, made from a clone of Sangiovese known locally as Prugnole Gentile. It's from the Baroncini stable, who've been at it since 1489 (we've been going 10 years!) and produce a range of reliable Tuscan thoroughbreds. It's not quite on a par with some of the estate Nobiles that we do (see me after class), but it is a genuine bargain for all those who have at some stage fallen for Sangiovese's classy, bitter-sweet cherry character. From the superb 2006 vintage, it's a perky little number (Vino Nubile?) with bright cherry fruit framed by its lifted acidity and fine tannins. If for some strange reason you are in any doubt about its credentials, come and have a taste. We'll have it on taste until all 224 cases have disappeared (which I suspect won't be long).
Why? This stock was magically retrieved from the collapse of the First Quench group (Threshers/Wine Rack). I believe it was due to retail at £11.99, and to be reduced on promotion to £9.99. It's yours for...
