We've hosted many tastings over the years, welcomed many winemaking icons through our doors and done our best to extol the glory of the world of real wine, to open a curious public's mouths to flavours unattainable in the factory winemaking that accounts for the lion's share of wine consumed in the UK. We'll crack on with these efforts, but thought it was about time we offered customers keen to learn more about the subject, a more structured wine course to give you a thorough understanding of what wine is and why its taste varies so dramatically.

There are a number of wine schools operating in the North West, with courses hosted by WSET diploma qualified 'teachers'. As ever, we aim to max out, and I'm delighted to announce that we have roped in a great friend of mine, an Ozzie with winemaking experience, and who recently qualified as one of only 350 Masters of Wine on the planet. Allow me to introduce you to Miles Corish MW. The course will comprise the following 'sessions':

• Four two hour sessions hosted by Miles, each featuring 6 wines to 'illustrate points'!
• An official WSET Level 1 Certificate Study pack
• The option to sit the WSET exam at the end of the course and get a real certificate!!
• An additional 'off-piste' two hour 'metaphysical' tasting session with me, focussing on wines that have inspired me over the years.
• The cost, to cover the five tasting sessions and the WSET course fees, is £200 per place, so £40 per two hour session. I understand evening classes at Mid Cheshire College work out at £25 per hour- and that's to learn how to use a spreadsheet, not learn about wine from a renowned expert with a glass of wine in your hand!

The course will start on the 15th March on 5 fortnightly Tuesday evenings, from 7pm-9pm. The dates for each session are:
Tuesday 14th March - Tuesday 28th March - Tuesday 11th April - Tuesday 25th April - Tuesday 9th May
