Very excited about this. Whilst Muscadet may not be the sexiest of sources, these wines are sensational and will make you, as it did us, reassess what it means to be Muscadet. Most wines from the region are overtly steely and skeletal, but Francois and Pauline Ménard, 6th generation owners of Ménard-Gaborit have created a range of stunning whites with remarkable richness and texture. They farm biodynamically (😉), reduce yields, use minimal sulphur and treat their wines to two to three years ageing in glass lined tanks sunk in the ground. We had great fun re-tasting them (see pic!) to come up with a menu fit to show them at their best. We’ll also show a couple of Loire reds from a superb grower from Saumur Champigny, Fabien Duveau. Menu as follows:

Aperitif
Gougeres
Domaine Ménard-Gaborit ‘Pour l’Histoire’ Muscadet Sevre et Maine 2022

Menu
Valencay Goats Cheese with Apple, Celery and Pink Peppercorn Chutney
Domaine Ménard-Gaborit ‘Contre Courant’ Muscadet Sevre et Maine 2022

Roast Quail, Salsify & Spelt Risotto, Quail Jus, Grape Gel
Domaine Ménard-Gaborit ‘Le Pallet’ 2018

Torched Monkfish, Green Papaya, Chimichurri
Domaine Ménard-Gaborit Monniere Saint-Fiacre 2018

Wild Boar Presse, Red Cherry Tartlet, Roast Parsnip, Boar Jus
Fabien Duveau ‘Les Menais’ Saumur Champigny 2021

Meurisse Papua New Guinea Dark Chocolate
Fabien Duveau Saumur Champigny Le Bourg 2022

Francois and Pauline will be with us to share their story. Tickets available in store or call our ticket hotline on 01606 882101. Please note tables of 2 will be sat on communal ‘banquet’ tables, whilst we have a number of tables available for groups of 4, 6 or 8. Tickets cost £80 per person and are expected to fly.

And finally, mid-week restaurant bookings have been a bit sluggish during this bleak month, so to tempt you out through the storms, we’re offering free corkage on any of our +1500 wines to sup with your dinner, up to (but not including!) Valentines Day. A £20 bottle on our shelves would cost £60 on many restaurant lists, so bob in for a bargain!
